Safety & verification policy
What we check, what we do not check, and what we ask you to do yourself. Please read this before your first class.
What ApplyGenie does check
We keep contact requests accountable
A tutor's number is only released to a signed-in account, and the tutor is shown exactly who asked and when. Nobody collects numbers here anonymously, and a tutor who is bothered can report the account that contacted them.
We require a complete profile before publishing
A profile only goes live once it carries a photo, a written introduction of at least 200 characters, at least one subject and class level, a city, years of experience, at least one stated qualification and a fee. Half-finished profiles are never publicly visible.
We never publish a tutor's phone number
Contact details are not in the page, not in the HTML source and not in our public API. They are released only to a signed-in user, with a limit on how many they can view in a day — and the tutor is told who asked.
We act on reports
Any signed-in user can report a profile. Reports are reviewed by our team and a profile can be removed from the directory immediately while we look into it.
What ApplyGenie does not check
Being listed here is not an endorsement, a recommendation, or a safety guarantee. These are the things you should assume have not been done:
We do not verify phone numbers
The number on a profile is whatever the tutor typed. We do not send a confirmation code and we do not check that the number reaches them. Treat an unanswered or wrong number as a reason to move on, and please report it.
We do not run police or background checks
We do not carry out criminal record checks, police verification, or any equivalent screening on tutors listed here. No profile on this site should be read as having passed one.
We do not verify degrees or certificates
Qualifications shown on a profile are what the tutor has told us. We do not contact universities or examine certificates. Ask to see the originals yourself.
We do not check identity documents
We do not collect or confirm Aadhaar, PAN, passports or any other identity document. Nothing on a profile has been checked against a document.
We do not supervise or employ tutors
Tutors listed here are independent. ApplyGenie is a directory, not an agency: we take no commission, set no fees, sign no contract with either side and have no role in what happens in a class.
For parents and students
A short checklist worth following every time, however good a profile looks.
- Ask for photo identification and note the details before the first class.
- Ask to see original certificates for every qualification claimed on the profile.
- Hold the first class somewhere you are comfortable — a living room with the door open, a library, or online.
- Stay nearby, or have another adult present, particularly for a younger child and particularly early on.
- Treat the first two or three classes as a trial. A good tutor will expect this.
- Agree fees, timing and the notice period in writing before you start, even if it is only a WhatsApp message.
- Never pay a large advance. There is no reason to pay for months of tuition up front.
- Ask your child how the classes are going, privately and regularly.
- Trust your instinct. If something feels wrong, stop, and report the profile to us.
For tutors
Your safety and your privacy matter here too.
- You choose what is visible. If you would rather not have your number shown at all, set your profile to enquiries-only and families will message you instead.
- You can pause your listing at any time from your account, and it disappears from the directory immediately.
- We tell you who viewed your number, so contact is never anonymous in either direction — and you can report an account that misuses it.
- Meet a new family somewhere public first if you would prefer to, and tell someone where you are going to your first class.
- We never ask you to pay to be listed, to rank higher, or to receive enquiries. Anyone claiming otherwise is not us.
Questions people ask
Does ApplyGenie background-check its home tutors?
No. We require a complete profile with stated qualifications before it is published, but we do not carry out police verification, criminal record checks, identity document checks, certificate verification or phone verification. Please ask any tutor for identification and proof of qualifications yourself.
Are the phone numbers on ApplyGenie checked?
No. The number on a profile is the one the tutor entered, and we do not confirm it reaches them. If a number is wrong or dead, please report the profile — that is how we find out.
Why can't I see a tutor's phone number without signing in?
Because a directory that shows phone numbers publicly is a directory that gets scraped. Numbers are released only to signed-in accounts, there is a daily limit on how many you can view, and the tutor is shown who asked. That is what makes the numbers on this site worth something to the tutors who share them.
How do I report a tutor profile?
Open the profile, choose Report this profile, and pick a reason. You need to be signed in so that reports are accountable. We review reports and can remove a profile from the directory while we investigate.
Does ApplyGenie take a commission on tuition fees?
No. Listing is free for tutors and contacting them is free for families. We take no commission, hold no payments, and are not a party to any arrangement you make with a tutor.
Something went wrong with a tutor I found here. What can I do?
Report the profile so we can act on it, and if a crime may have been committed, contact the police. ApplyGenie is a directory and cannot mediate disputes, recover money or take action beyond removing a profile and the account behind it.
Need to report something?
Open the tutor's profile and use Report this profile. If you believe a crime has been committed, please contact the police as well — we can remove a listing, but we cannot investigate.
