Stenographer Grade-III: • Passed Second PUC examination, or holds a 3-year Diploma in Commercial Practice or an equivalent qualification • Passed the Senior Grade Kannada and English shorthand examinations conducted by the Department of Public Instruction, or an equivalent qualification Typist: • Passed Second PUC examination, or holds a 3-year Diploma in Commercial Practice or an equivalent qualification • Passed the Senior Grade Kannada and English typewriting examinations conducted by the Department of Public Instruction, or an equivalent qualification Selection will be made by direct recruitment as per the Karnataka Subordinate Courts (Ministerial and Other Posts) (Recruitment) (Amendment) Rules, 2021.
Age Limit
Age will be reckoned as on the last date for submission of application (24 August 2026). The minimum age is 18 years. Maximum age limits by category, including the one-time 5-year relaxation granted vide Government Order dated 29 January 2026, are given below. Category: Maximum Age Limit General/Unreserved: 35 + 5 years (one-time relaxation) = 40 years Category 2A/2B/3A/3B: 38 + 5 years (one-time relaxation) = 43 years SC/ST/Category-1: 40 + 5 years (one-time relaxation) = 45 years Additional age relaxation is available to government employees, widows, ex-servicemen, and persons with disability as per the Karnataka Civil Services (General Recruitment) Rules, 1977.

Category: Application Fee General, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B: Rs. 200/- SC, ST, Category-1, Persons with Disability: Exempted Fee must be paid online only through State Bank Collect (Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card/UPI/QR Code) via the link on the official website. Demand Draft, postal order, money order, or challan payments will not be accepted. E-verification of the payment is mandatory immediately after payment.
Selection Process
Stenographer Grade-III: • A dictation of 120 words per minute for 5 minutes each in Kannada and English will be given by an examiner appointed by the recruiting authority; candidates must transcribe it within 45 minutes using a computer with special software • Kannada and English skill tests each carry a maximum of 100 marks; a minimum of 50 marks in each is required to qualify • Candidates will be shortlisted for interview at a ratio of 1:5 based on the combined percentage of qualifying examination marks and skill test marks • The interview carries 5 marks Typist: • A dictation of 15 minutes each in Kannada and English will be given; candidates must type it using a computer with special software • Kannada and English skill tests each carry a maximum of 100 marks; a minimum of 50 marks in each is required to qualify • Candidates will be shortlisted for interview at a ratio of 1:5 based on the combined percentage of qualifying examination marks and skill test marks • The interview carries 5 marks Selected candidates will undergo a probation period of 2 years as per the Karnataka Civil Services (Probation) Rules, 1977, during which they must pass the departmental examinations, Kannada language examination, and computer literacy examination.
